| Treatment Philosophy |
The ultimate goal of addiction treatment is to enable an individual to achieve lasting abstinence. Like people with diabetes or heart disease, people in treatment for addiction will need to change behavior to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
Scientific research has shown that treatment can help many people change destructive behaviors, avoid relapse, and successfully remove themselves from a life of substance abuse and addiction. Recovery from addiction is a long-term process. Based on this research resurgence treatment philosophy has been formulated: |
- Resurgence, matches interventions, and services to each individual's particular problems and needs as it is critical to his or her ultimate success in returning to productive functioning in the family, workplace, and society.
- Treatment addresses the individual's substance use and any associated medical, psychological, social, vocational, and legal problems.
- Resurgence realizes that a client may require varying combinations of services and treatment components during the course of treatment and recovery. In addition to counseling or psychotherapy, a client at times may require medication, other medical services, family therapy, parenting instruction, vocational rehabilitation, and social and legal services. It is critical that the treatment approach be appropriate to the individual's age, gender, ethnicity, and culture.
- In therapy, clients address issues of motivation, build skills to resist drug use, replace substance-using activities with constructive and rewarding non substance-using activities, and improve problem-solving abilities. Cognitive behavioral therapy which is primarily used in the treatment program facilitates interpersonal relationships and the individual's ability to function in the family and community.
- Treatment program provides assessment for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B and C,tuberculosis and other infectious diseases, and counseling to help clients modify or change behaviors that place themselves or others at risk of infection. Resurgence provides counseling to help clients avoid high-risk behavior.Counseling also helps clients who are already infected manage their illness.
- Recovery from addiction can be a long-term process and frequently clients may require prolonged treatment to achieve long-term abstinence and fully restored functioning. Participation in therapeutic support systems/community during and following treatment often is helpful in maintaining abstinence.
